Fire Wanderer
Chapter 1
United States of America, 2000 year...
A dull autumn morning drove despondency, and the dribbling rain on the roof of the car even more overshadowed the already terrible mood of all passengers. Clinging to the car window and listening to music on headphones, the girl was immersed in her thoughts:
"I hate autumn. I hate my life."
The girl sighed and was distracted by the twitching at the sleeve of her jacket. She looked sourly at the brother sitting next to her and taking out her headphones, she asked:
- What do you want?
- I asked him, - came a voice of the driving man, - I wanted to say that we will soon arrive, so get ready to unload.
A mobile phone rang, and a pretty woman sitting next to the driver picked up the receiver:
- Yes, hello. - for a while she listened, then she thanked the speaker briefly and hung up the phone, - This is the forwarder. Our things are in place, - she smiled brightly.
- Well! Have you heard? - the man clearly wanted at least somehow to amuse the sitting children and support the conversation.
- Yes, I'm absolutely thrilled, - the girl replied sarcastically.
- Alex! - the woman looked irritably at her daughter..
- It's all right, - the man reassured her, - Soon we will live in a new place and, I’m sure, we will forget past troubles.
- Are you going to tell me to forget my dad too? - the girl clearly showed her dislike for everything that her stepfather said and did.
- ALEX!! - the mother cried out at her daughter, in order to point out to her the disgusting behavior.
The car turned onto a narrow street in a suburban town. Having driven to the very end - to where there were practically no plots - he finally stopped at a small, neat house. It's looked neglected and obviously forgotten when the last time someone lived in it.
- Well-well! - exclaimed the boy, - What kind of house... straight from horror stories!
- In these houses, there always live ghosts and demons that will drag you into the darkness and devour, - Alex said coldly behind her younger brother, to which he was clearly scared.
- Stop it, Alex, please. You are frightening Peter, - the man did not like the behavior of the eldest.
The girl snorted and began to quickly drag her things into the house.
Chapter 2
Several months have passed since the move. A new house, a new life, a new school, new acquaintances - all this was a little harder for Alex than she expected. The girl often walked, exploring the surroundings behind the house. As it turned out, behind a sparse forest there was an old and long-forgotten cemetery, which didn't even have a caretaker. This spectacle looked both terrifying and beautiful at the same time. There were not only lonely graves there, but also entire family crypts. Alex was attracted to everything ancient and romantic, like dusty chests in the attic or books in foreign languages.
In addition to strange and sometimes frightening hobbies, Alex had a secret that no one knew about except her mother and late father. She was pyrokinetic - a woman with the ability to control fire. A sweet and quiet girl with dark blond hair and clean blue eyes could burn a half of the city in a fit of rage. But unlike her father, who supported her and taught her to control her strength, her mother was afraid of her daughter’s unusual powers. Therefore, the relationship between them was always strained.
Spring was approaching and the spring school ball, which all the girls in the senior class were so looking forward to.
- Hey, Alex, are you coming? - like a typhoon to flew her friend Clara - a sample of clumsiness, charm and unquenchable positive.
- No, - Alex cut off, - And no, don't try to persuade, - ahead of girlfriends squabbling.
- Vermin... - Carla chewed her cheeks, - But if you want to know, there's someone who wants to invite you to the ball, - the malicious smile immediately stretched across her friend's face, - And you know him. This is our "number one" - Max Tyleeeer.
- Yeah, so that all his fans would tear me up later... And in general, I can’t stand people like him. Arrogant, arrogant, insolent, lustful and..., - Alex's face grimaced, - Ew! Forget it...!
The girls went to the exit from the school, and, as if by a mockery of fate, the same Max appeared in the doorway:
- Hello, new one. I wanted to suggest... Maybe we can go together...?
- I refuse! - Alex interrupted him, which drove the guy into a stupor and brought down the contemptuous hiss of the girls standing nearby.
Max blinked his eyes in confusion for a while, but still tagged along with Alex and Clara. All the way on the school bus the guy did not stop, pestering them with vulgar jokes. FIn the end, Alex's self-control began to give out, and her brain began to boil with anger at such impenetrable stupidity. It got to the point that the chair on which the object of her irritation was sitting burst into flames. There was panic in the bus. Fortunately, everything was later blamed on the lighter that was in Max’s back pocket of his jeans. However, for Alex this was a signal that her abilities were growing and she needed more strength to control them..
After that incident, Alex tried to minimize communication with others. But as luck would have it, Max began to pay even more attention to the girl. This made her feel uneasy. On top of that, not everything was going smoothly at home - quarrels with my stepfather were occurring more and more often. And the mother herself completely avoided her daughter.
Chapter 3
The full moon has coming, which meant another insomnia. During such periods, Alex suffered from nightmares and poor health. And this time she decided to spend as much time in the attic as possible. She was calmed by putting things in order, sorting books and things. Fortunately, there was enough work to take my mind off all the squabbles at least for a while. One day the girl came across a book in an elegant leather binding, very different from the others. The pages were written by hand in a beautiful neat handwriting:
"Looks like a personal diary",- Alex thought, - "I wonder by whom it was written?"
After flipping through the pages, she realized that she was holding in her hands almost a museum piece.
"October 13, 1659. My people have lost him again. This is the third time this year this has happened. But at the last meeting he was exhausted and could not give us a proper rebuff. We seriously injured him. Unfortunately, the rain washed out the tracks, and I lost him somewhere in the forest."
"October 20, 1659. It's all over. Although not in the way I expected. Even though he was so exhausted and wounded, the fire demon's power was still great. We weren't able to kill him, but we were able to drive him into a spiritual trap and seal away the vile monster. The huge sword that remained after him will be evidence of man's victory over the demon. However, no... The world should not know about him or his kind.”
Alex read the lines and didn’t believe what was written. From her thoughts she was ripped out by a phone rattling in her pocket, on the screen of which there was an unknown number.
- Hello? Who is it? - she answered cautiously at the bell.
- Hi Alex. This is Max. Sorry, I found out your number, - the voice at the other end of the phone was cheerful, - You know, I'm at your house now... Yes, I was able to find out that too.
- Have you been following me? You crazy!
- Come out. Otherwise I'll go broke under the windows about the fact that we meet and spend hot nights together, - at the last phrase the guy cheerfully raised his voice, so much so that the girl heard him even without the phone.
Alex was furious, but, frightened of the actions of the abnormal admirer, leaned out of the attic window and threatened to cut off the head if he didn't shut up. After that, she made her way out of the house in a roundabout way and went outside. A satisfied Max was already waiting for her there, clutching a phone in one hand and a bottle of beer in the other.
- Come with me, - the guy moved in the direction of the forest.
- Are you crazy? - Alex hissed through her teeth, - I'm not going anywhere with you, especially since you're drunk! Go home!
- Hmm, well then, - he came very close to the girl and leaned towards her face, - I'll tell that the fire in the bus this is your work.
Alex's eyes flew open, and blood seemed to flow from her face. She was overcome by fear and no longer controlling herself she followed the guy.
They went to the cemetery, according to which she so often walked in the hope of burying bad thoughts and emotions. It turned out that a group of drunken teenagers like Max were already waiting for them there. The fun was in full swing. Many crypts and graves were desecrated with all sorts of offensive inscriptions, doused with alcohol, or generally used by couples as a comfort bed. What she saw horrified Alex and caused deep disgust for uninvited guests.
- Heeey! Look, Max brought us a guest! - announced one of his friends.
All eyes were turned in their direction, making Alex feel uncomfortable.
- Well...,' - Max sighed quietly and threw the bottle to the side, - All assembled We can start.
He grabbed Alex tightly just above the elbow and, to the cheerful laughter and hooting of his friends, dragged her to the central crypt. All her attempts to escape were futile. With a slight movement, like a rope, Max tore off the chains and locks hanging on the doors of the crypt. Alex was overcome by fear. Can a person just break the chains so easily? Max, without ceremony, opened the doors with his feet and threw the girl inside. Then he snatched a bottle from the hands of the first friend he came across, smashed it on a tombstone and drove the sharp edges into the drunkard's neck. Women's screams were heard. The wild Max attacked and slaughtered everyone who came to hand. Blood watered the ground, the gravestones and himself. No one could escape from him. He looked like a drug addict who had relapsed and was finally satiated with another dose with a devilish smile on his face. When the screams died down, Max froze in the doorway, eagerly inhaling the cool night air. The whites of his eyes became bloodshot, and his pupils took on an inhuman golden hue. And the gaze of these frightening eyes froze on Alex, who was trembling with fear in the darkness of the crypt. Meanwhile, the blood, drawn together like a magnet, enveloped Max in a scarlet sphere, through which Alex was able to see the transformation. The blood was completely absorbed into the guy’s body, and a tall, muscular man with scarlet hair and green skin covered with blood-red patterns appeared before the girl. His head was adorned with curved horns.
- D... demon, - Alex whispered in shock.
The demon straightened up:
- Aaaaah... It's so good to finally get back to normal. You have no idea how tired I am of eking out an existence in this wretched little world! - his face wrinkled in disgust, examining the surroundings, - But now that you have so fortunately appeared in this hole, I have there is an opportunity to return back to Demon World.
Alex realized that if nothing was done now, this monster would tear her into pieces, sacrifice her, or, God knows what else. She will have to save herself, without waiting for the noble knight, like a frightened little princess. Alex took a deep breath, pulled herself together and called for help all these she so desperately didn't want to release. The spark that flashed in her hands in a split second turned into a raging flame that engulfed the entire crypt with the girl there. The demon sensed something was wrong in time. He surrounded himself with a bloody shield and hurried to move away from the blazing building to a safe distance. And not in vain... The crypt was blown to the very foundation by the explosion. A figure completely unlike Alex grew in the flames. The raging elements that illuminated the cemetery dissipated with the flapping of membranous wings. In the center of this chaos, holding an unconscious girl in his arms, stood another demon. The full moon appeared from behind the clouds and illuminated it. Silver hair, long horns and skin the color of night blue. The shadow cast by his sweeping wings reached the feet of the bloody demon.
- Alexander?! - the blood demon backed away, but having controlled himself, he grinned feignably, - This is how the meeting... So, all this time, you were under my nose. And I kept wondering where you disappeared three hundred years ago.
- Bloodian... - the fire demon said gloomily, - I see you're still alive...?
- You didn't think that the lord of blood would be so easy to destroy? - laughing it off, Bloodian spread his hands, and the sarcastic tone of his voice gave way to an angry one, - It was by your grace that I became an outcast and stuck in this hole with no way to come back!
Alexander: - Do you think the Demon World will welcome a traitor with open arms?
Bloodian bared his teeth:
- It's all your fault! From the very beginning... From the moment you turned your back on Brotherhood everything went wrong.
- Finally, grow up and stop blaming everyone around you for your mistakes, - Alexander took a few steps to the side to hide the girl away from danger.
- Give me the girl! - Bloodian shouted.
- Why on earth? - Alexander was still calm.
Bloodian: - You don't need it, but for me it's the key to home. Her blood... with its help I can open a portal between worlds. After all, this baby... she is closer to us than to mortals.
Alexander was surprised to hear this. He glanced at the girl. In appearance, she was an ordinary mortal. But then the demon remembered that it was her flame that destroyed the seal holding him. All that was before awakening was pitch darkness, centuries-old pain and tightness, as if he was in a coffin. Alexander's consciousness had long since dissolved in this darkness, until at one moment it broke into small pieces. And in the flames that engulfed everything around, stood a girl, whose long hair fluttered in a whirlwind of fire. The dangerous element obeyed every movement of her fragile fingers. Perhaps this exhausted the poor girl and she lost consciousness.
- Are you saying that she is a half-breed? Half-demon? - all the pieces of the mosaic in Alexander's head finally came together.
And now he definitely wasn't going to give the girl to Bloodian. Fire demon felt weak, knowing full well that his strength had not yet fully returned to him. He is unlikely to be able to fight in his current state.
Alexander: - And how do you want to open the portal?
Bloodian: - A small ritual with a sacrifice.
Alexander: - She must die?
Bloodian: - It's not a big loss for such a thing.
Meanwhile, Alex came to her senses and for some time could not understand where she was. Hers long hair was tangled and smelled of smoke. Clothes were torn in some places. The girl looked around. She sat with her back against a monument with an angel over one of the graves. Next, Alex heard voices and cautiously looked out from behind the tombstone. And then she began to remember what happened. What she saw shocked her, because there were already two demons standing. However, based on their communication, she would not call them friends. And she didn't want to figure out who was related to whom and by whom. Alex hurried to leave this place and began to carefully crawl away. But then my left hand ran into a fragment of a broken bottle.
- Ay...! - the girl pulled back her hand and immediately turned towards the demons in the hope that they had not noticed her.
Unfortunately they heard her. Bloodian stretched out into a predatory smile. In the blink of an eye, he turned into a bloody puddle and returned to his previous appearance in front of the girl. She recoiled in surprise. But Bloodian managed to grab Alex. He sharply twisted the girl's hand and pressed her to him. With his second hand the demon grabbed the poor girl by the throat:
- That's all, brother.
He turned his gaze to Alexander, who was baring his teeth. He did not move from his spot, fearing for the girl's life. Bloodian lowered himself to Alex's neck and inhaled the scent of her skin:
- You smell wonderful. Like we are demons. And intertwined with the human, your smell becomes so enchanting... tasty and unique. I even feel sorry for killing you. Maybe I should play with you first...?
- I'd better... - the girl began quietly, - Die!
And she sharply threw her head back, hitting Bloodian with all her strength with the back of his head right on the bridge of his nose. The blood demon grabbed his face. He didn't expect this and was confused for a few of seconds. This was enough for Alex to break free from his grip. She rushed away, but a second demon appeared on the way. She didn't know what to do this time. To Alex's surprise, the blue demon grabbed her wrist and, folding his wings, blocked her with himself.
- Your force..., - he asked briefly, without turning around, - Give it to me.
- Force? - Alex didn't really understand what he wanted.
- Fire, - the demon explained, - I'm still too weak to resist my brother. If we want to be saved, we need...
The girl did not let him finish, tightly taking his hand. At that moment, heat spread throughout her body, as if every cell of her body was on fire. The air quickly began to heat up. Squeezing the girl's hand with one hand, Alexander absorbed her power. In the demon's other hand, a fireball grew, increasing in size with every breath he took.
- Oh, you're rubbish! Yes, I...! - Bloodian had just come to his senses.
He turned to the couple, but immediately realized that he had lost this fight. He had nowhere to run. A huge fireball reached its target. The blood demon met the last moments of his life in an all-consuming flame.
The exhausted girl's knees gave way. Alexander caught her in time and carefully lowered her to the ground.
- And you, baby, are not timid, - the demon grinned, - So punch my brother in the nose...
- Alex, - she timidly interrupted him.
- What? - the demon did not understand why she addressed him by name.
- That's my name, - the girl continued.
- Wow... Me too, - the demon smiled slightly and knelt down in front of her, - I am Alexander.
- That... other one... He said that I smell like you..., - Alex could barely pronounce the words, - I... am not human?
She looked up at the demon.
- Not a person, - he responded, - But it's not so bad...
His eyes looked into hers. The girl was a little embarrassed. But before she could say anything, her strength left her and she lost consciousness. The momentary silence was broken by the roar of engines, and six black SUVs drove into the cemetery. People in jackets and with weapons quickly jumped out of the cars. All guns were pointed at Alexander. The demon straightened up sharply, preparing to defend himself. Fire burned in my hands.
- Don't shoot! - commanded a confident male voice.
The unknown men lowered their weapons on command.
- Hush, guy, hush..., - a man was walking towards the demon, dressed like everyone else, only without a weapon, - Don't be afraid. We won't harm you or the girl. I give you my word.
- Who you are?! Hunters?! - Alexander was skeptical.
- Not really. We are agents of Institute..., - he took out his ID from his pocket.
- And? What is this? - the demon looked at his interlocutor with distrust.
- Nah... However, this doesn't tell you anything, - the agent realized that the demonstration of the badge did not have the desired success and removed it, - In a nutshell, we are a secret government organization engaged in investigation and concealment paranormal phenomena. We have been keeping an eye on Alex for a long time and protecting her.
- You're doing it pretty lousy. Don't you think so? - Alexander nodded towards the recent battlefield.
The agent scratched his temple with his index finger in frustration:
- Yes... Here we made a mistake. We didn't have time to react in time. Our agent was distracted and did not notice Alex sneaking out of the house. And, nevertheless, if you don’t mind, we would like to take the girl with us.
Alexander: - Why on earth am I obliged to believe you?
The agent nodded:
- You are right. If I were you, I wouldn't believe it either. But it's true. Taking care of the girl is the responsibility of our organization. This was the agreement between the head of the Institute and her father.
The demon was silent.
- If you don't trust my words, you can come with us and see for yourself. Yes, you were not included in our plans, however... I saw what you are capable of. Such people..., - the agent stopped short, - I'm sorry. ...We need such creatures. What would you say if we offer you a job? Payment, accommodation, ammunition... The Institute will provide you with everything you need. But there is one condition... - he paused, - the girl must forget you and everything that happened here. It will be better for her. We must protect her so that today doesn't happen again.
- I don’t work with people, - Alexander snapped dryly and looked at the girl lying at his feet, - But raising other people's children was not part of my plans. So I want to make sure nothing happens to her.
The agent nodded:
- Don't worry. We will take her to Russia. She will be safe there. I will personally keep an eye on her at first. She will be provided with everything she needs.
- The girl shared her power with me, so..., - the demon looked around at those present, then looked intently at the agent, - if you lied to me, I will find out. And then you are all dead.
Alex was carefully lifted and carried into one of the cars. The fire demon looked after her with some degree of regret...
Epilogue
Moscow, Russia. 10 years later...
The red Harley stopped at the service entrance to the nightclub. After turning off the engine, a blond guy in a black leather jacket and blue jeans got off. His eyes were hidden by dark glasses. An Institute agent was already waiting for him at the door:
- Good morning. I am your curator, - he extended his hand in greeting, but the guy did not respond to his gesture, - Well... Follow me.
The agent led the blond deeper into the building, from where the choice of women's abuse could be heard. At that moment the guy felt a familiar aroma. He knew him from somewhere, but couldn't remember.
- A minute of attention! - the agent interrupted the argument of a small team consisting of three people, - Please, introduce yourself. This is Alexander - a new member of your team.
The guy took off his glasses.
- Alex, this is Sasha, - the agent continued, - She's your new commander.
A girl with short dark hair and very appetizing curves turned to Alexander. She brushed aside a strand of her bangs, revealing serious blue eyes. Their gazes met. And then something clicked in Alexander's head:
- Can't be...
- Have we met somewhere? - the girl asked, puzzled.
Alexander shook his head and smiled:
- Must be in a past life...
